Design and Technology Intent
At Hillary Primary School, our DT curriculum provides children with a vast range of opportunities to be aspirational, whereby children can practically apply skills to develop their creative, technical and practical expertise.
Children are given a range of opportunities to thrive during their time at Hillary Primary School, because they feel safe and comfortable, they are willing to take risks and therefore become more resourceful, innovative and capable. With this in mind, children are able to understand that failure leads to great success through being able to make mistakes through their designs.
We believe each child and teacher is unique. Therefore, in addition to the DT curriculum, teachers add their own creative flair, and personal touch by planning to create fun and engaging lessons where learning is achieved through a quality-first teaching approach. Our DT lessons consist of opportunities for children to be articulate and actively to lessons.
We believe that through a variety of innovative and practical experiences, it will enable our children to become knowledgeable and develop a critical understanding of their designs and its impact on daily life and the wider world.
The DT curriculum enables children to develop their inquisitive minds by posing challenging questions and by providing opportunities for children to evaluate and critique their own work and designs.
Overall, the DT curriculum will support children to develop their unique identities by providing a broad range of subject knowledge that provides a progressive range of skills to ultimately, allow children to understand the importance of design and technology in the world around them.
