 Our Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Hillary, every child is recognised as a unique individual and we are passionate about allowing all children to achieve their full potential. Thrive is at the heart of everything we do at Hillary. We believe that a child’s emotional development and academic progress go hand in hand.

We provide an aspirational and engaging curriculum, which encourages all our children to be inquisitive, where all subjects are taught discretely but are all valued. Through these subjects, we teach our children key skills and give them a range of experiences to broaden their horizons, preparing them to be life-long learners who have high aspirations. The knowledge and skills which are taught are underpinned by the principles of the National Curriculum. Learning is sequenced, builds on prior knowledge and is relevant to our children, their heritage and the area in which they live.

At Hillary, we want our children to be articulate, therefore our lessons are language rich. We expose children to vocabulary, use sentence stems to promote speaking and listening, invest time in speech and language therapy and the use of Makaton so that our children have the very best foundations for communication and language. Reading is also a key priority here at Hillary and is a vital part of each school day. We ensure that children have access to reading material in each subject and we promote reading for pleasure and the love for literature.

Curriculum Drivers

At Hillary, we have 6 curriculum drivers which are at the heart of everything we do. As a school all of our stakeholders and pupils are...

  • Aspirational

  • Inquisitive

  • Articulate

  • Knowledgeable

  • Unique

And because of this, we…

  • THRIVE!
