Languages Intent
At Hillary Primary, our MFL curriculum supports our quest to recognise children as unique individuals, preparing children to be global citizens in an ever-changing world. We provide an aspirational and engaging languages curriculum, which encourages our children to develop a love of languages and develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning.
Our teaching and learning of French encourages children to be inquisitive, with opportunities to explore a whole new view of the world and its cultures. The knowledge and skills which are taught, extend our understanding of how language works and similarities and differences between languages. Learning is sequenced, builds on prior knowledge and is relevant to our children, their heritage and the area in which they live. Our MFL curriculum allows children to thrive by providing a medium for cross-curricular links and for reinforcement of knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects.
At Hillary, we want our children to be articulate; our languages curriculum promotes the communication of expressing ideas and opinions in a different spoken and written language.
